This year, our Year 6 pupils will be attending a 4 day residential at Essex Outdoor, Danbury. The trip will take place on the 15th – 18th June 2021. Year 6 is an extremely important time for your children, not only because it’s their final year as a St Ursula’s pupil but because of the experiences they will have. Each year, our Year 6 pupils attend a residential trip which aims to develop their personal and social development and wellbeing. It is also a time for pupils to reflect on their time at St Ursula’s and to celebrate with their friends of whom many have been together since the age of 4.
The Government continues to advise against overnight educational visits and this advice remains under review. However; schools are able to resume non-overnight educational visits. On this guidance we have decided to provide our pupils with experience they deserve. We know how much our children look forward to this trip!
Why are we changing provider?
This change in provider is not due to COVID-19. In January 2020 Mr Ashburn and the Year 6 team reviewed the residential provider in Trewern (Border of wales) and it was agreed that the rising costs for 2021 (£430 per pupil) and distance (4.5 hour drive) was not suitable. The Year 6 team visited several residential providers locally and found that Essex Outdoors, Danbury, would provide better activities and experience for all our pupils. We had provisionally booked last February, for 4 days of activities with overnight stay. A lot has happened since February! With the current Government guidance stating that pupils are unable to stay over, day visits are our only option. Luckily enough, as our new provider is in Essex it means we can transport the children to and from the site each day. Danbury is 20 miles from the school and travel will take 30-45 minutes each morning and evening. A coach will collect children from school at 8:30am and will return at 5:30pm. Pupils will take packed lunch.
What about COVID-19?
Schools and residential providers must follow strict guidance that is informed by risk assessments. Before attending the residential, the school’s risk assessment will be scrupulously reviewed. This trip will be done in line with protective measures, such as keeping children within their consistent group, and with COVID-secure measures being in place at the site. The residential provider has made all required adjustments to ensure safety for all pupils and staff in this current climate.
What happens if Schools close again and the trip is cancelled?
Parents will be fully refunded.
The total cost of the trip is £184 per pupil. To reserve your child’s place on the trip a deposit of £50 will need to be made by Friday 6th November. Please complete this payment via Schoolcomms/Gateway. If we do not receive your payments by Friday 6th November we will assume that you do not wish your child to participate. Children will be required to attend school if they are not attending the trip.
In a time where our pupils have already missed out on so much, it is important that we provide them with these experiences. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
